You know him as the rocker with long locks from season five of American Idol and she was America’s Sweetheart and runner up on season three. Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo are truly an American Idol power couple that is sweeping Broadway by storm with the all new Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat premiering at The Stanley Theatre in Utica, NY.

Stars of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and American Idol alums Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo are seen chatting with one another during an interview at The Stanley Theatre.

On February 26th and 27th the two will take the Stanley stage to perform the updated classic Broadway musical known as the unofficial sequel to the widely popular Jesus Christ Super Star. Young, as Joseph has some big shoes to fill as his predecessors in the role have included Donny Osmond and David Cassidy.

While Young takes on the role as Joseph, DeGarmo will take on the role as narrator, re-telling the story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and his coat of many colors.

With the show kicking off in Utica, the two newlyweds are very excited to begin their countrywide tour together.

Although the American Idol alums share the same claim to fame, it is not exactly where their love story began. During an interview with the couple, DeGarmo laughed and said it probably wouldn’t have worked if they had met during her season of American Idol, as she was only 16-years-old at the time.

The couple actually met after their time on the competitive singing show, while cast as leads in the 2010 revival of Hair on Broadway.

Since then, the two have performed in several theatre shows together. Young admits, the couple prefers working with one another. “Now into one year of marriage, it’s awesome because we have that creative energy between the two of us.” DeGarmo said, “it’s an easy transition to work with each other because we both enjoy performing. We always want the other person to succeed because this is a dual venture.” she added,“It’s us and our little wiener dog on the road, our little family is touring the country and the great thing is we get to kick it off in Utica.”

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a tech show, which means the show will be built from scratch from stage structure to lighting to choreography and singing. “This will be the first time we will have people in the house that have not seen it before,” confesses DeGarmo. “The show has to be locked down after the tech premiere in Utica, but the first two performances are the last chance for the director and creative team to make any last changes. What you see during the first performance might not be what you see during the second. Anything could happen, its live theatre.”

“Were still working things out,” said Young. “The funny thing is we’re rehearsing and sometimes people don’t make it back in the next costume. So they come out in wig cap, no hair and they’re like, couldn’t do it.”

DeGarmo admits, “It‘s hilarious. This could possibly happen during the show but that’s what were here to figure out, we run it until we figure out what works.”

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat promises to be like no other Broadway show, with a mix of several different performance elements sure to wow any crowd.

Young explained throughout the show you will see many types of choreography including ballet and tap.

“We truly love theatre,” said DeGarmo.“ There is always a different energy every show and you always get something from it. All of these performers are so talented.”

“This is a one of a kind show, said Young. Adding, “To be able to do this in the Stanley Theatre for this whole week is unbelievable. I feel like places like this have that energy where there could be a phantom running around watching the show. It has that rich history and all that it’s going to do is lend to the craft and make it that much better.”

Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat is presented by Broadway Theatre League of Utica.
