It's the forth day of National Volunteer Week! Here at The Stanley we have an army of volunteers who really keep this place going! We would never be able to keep things running as smoothely as they do without them, so in their honor we will be posting some highlights our volunteers have given us including their name, how long they have been with us, and what inspired them to get involved! Thank you to everyone who help us keep this theater as great as it can be! See you at The Stanley!

Name: Robbie Dancy

Number of years as a volunteer: 12

What inspired you to become a Stanley volunteer?

I’ve always like theater. Three years after moving back to Utica, I was introduced to Elder Life. While a member, my mother and I did a reader’s theater of The Delaney Sisters. One of the members of Elder Life was an usher at the Stanley and gave me the information I needed.

What do you like best about volunteering at the Stanley?

I feel it is a service to the community. Most theater workers get paid. This is a volunteer job. I love the pay I get, by being able to watch the attractions. That, in itself, is enough.

Name: Dolores Boehlert

Number of years as a volunteer: 22

What inspired you to become a Stanley volunteer?

I have always worked with people and after retirement felt I should make a commitment to the community by volunteering at the Stanley.

What do you like best about volunteering at the Stanley?

I enjoy the patron’s pleasure in the shows presented. I especially enjoy the young children’s reactions at the school performances.

Tell us a memorable volunteer story.

I remember one little girl, at her first time at the Stanley, when she came into the lobby and spied the staircase. She asked me if a princess lived here.

Name: Matt Molanare

Number of years as a volunteer: 5

What inspired you to become a Stanley volunteer?

I’ve always had a strong love for the theatre. Helping out at the Stanley is my way of staying connected to an art form I love. I also never want to see the Stanley close its doors, so any help I can provide is very meaningful to me.

What do you like best about volunteering at the Stanley?

Getting to do something so different from my day job is a good way to re-balance myself. Otherwise, I do like getting to see such a variety of shows, many of which I would never have seen, I’m sure.

Tell us a memorable volunteer story.

Our volunteer parties are pretty amazing. Everyone gets so into them and always has a good time. More and more people have been getting involved with the parties, too. I’m one of the younger volunteers on the roster, and I often get teased about my youth. Well, one party, we were playing a game that many people thought of as challenging, and “before my time.” Who won the game? I did :) Since then people always want me on their team. The teasing continues of course, but it’s all in good fun. Naturally I dish it out too.

Name: Dorothy M. Salerno

Number of years as a volunteer: 18

What inspired you to become a Stanley volunteer?

Loving the arts and new to the area, people I met offered information where I could become involved with various establishments as a volunteer. I chose the Stanley as one of the places.

What do you like best about volunteering at the Stanley?

The reward I receive for my volunteering is second to no other. It encouraged me to research the Stanley history, and because of that I became a Stanley Tour Guide, sometime during my 18 years.

Tell us a memorable volunteer story.

As a Stanley volunteer I am pleased with the communication from patrons that I receive when I can answer their questions about the Stanley. In return, I also learn from what they have experienced in the past years.
